With proper planning and measurements, and a few calculations, you can ensure that your next waterproofing project doesn’t leave your basement littered with a bunch of half-empty gallon cans.
United Gilsonite Laboratories (UGL), a Scranton, PA-based paint specialty manufacturer, announced the product approval for DRYLOK® EXTREME Masonry Waterproofer as part of a new exterior Sealed Cladding System. It was issued approval number FL30710 from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DPBR). This new exterior Sealed Cladding System provides a watertight and wind-resistant exterior finish for use on residential wood studs and OSB substrates. It utilizes an internal weather-resistant barrier (WRB), StructaLath metal lath, and a Portland Cement-based finish coated with DRYLOK® EXTREME Masonry Waterproofer. The system tested to resist transverse wind loads up to an allowable pressure of +75/-75 pounds per square foot (PSF) when constructed per the provisions of the approval.
So, when you open a can of DRYLOK® Original or DRYLOK® Extreme, you’ll realize how thick this product really is. Resist the temptation to water it down (do not thin)! The viscosity of the formula is your friend. First off, make sure you’re using a three-quarter-inch nap roller or paint brush specifically designed to work with heavy-bodied paint (like the DRYLOK® Brush). Second, follow the directions, starting with stirring the product before and during application.
Whether you’re a homeowner with DIY inclinations or a professional responsible for volume applications, masonry waterproofing is the kind of job worth doing right the first time. Apply an inferior product to concrete, cinder blocks, brick, or stone, and you could end up with a real mess. Imagine investing in a product, then putting in all the time and labor, only to discover that it just doesn’t work.
United Gilsonite Laboratories (UGL), is pleased to announce that it will introduce new packaging designs for their top-selling DRYLOK® Masonry Waterproofing products (Original Latex Base DRYLOK®, Extreme DRYLOK® and DRYLOK® Floor and Wall (formally known as Clear DRYLOK®)). The first of the new packaging will hit the market in mid April. Over the course of 2019, UGL will roll-out several additional products under the DRYLOK® name to fit into the new family identity. The new labels will reflect the company's continued innovation in processing and products, as well as its commitment to evolving with its consumers' needs while remaining true to the authentic quality we have been offering customers since 1932.
There are two kinds of basements, ones that have already been finished, and ones that – with some elbow grease and a little DRYLOK® – could be transformed into perfectly usable living space. Either way, water intrusion (whether you just feel a bit of dampness or see actual water and its effects) can undermine the structural integrity of your home, ruin your belongings, and promote mold or mildew that can lead to health concerns.
Currently, residential and commercial interior design trends are embracing industrial sensibilities; exposing and showcasing ductwork, pipes, brick, concrete, and additional construction features that typically remain hidden. Efflorescence, a white powdery residue, are salts that occur naturally within masonry.
Since its inception in 1954, DRYLOK® Masonry Waterproofer has produced some very satisfied customers. A sampling of testimonials will create a very effective advertising campaign with the tagline “DRYLOK®, Protecting Your Lifestyle.” During the creation of these spots, UGL spoke to customers who swear by the effectiveness of DRYLOK® Masonry Waterproofer and the specific benefits DRYLOK® offers. Each story is completely different, but the results of a 5 star customer experience is the same.

UGL knows that not everyone needs a gallon of product to finish those little projects around the home. This is why select DRYLOK® brands can be found in quart sizes. This new quart size not only saves the customer money, but also helps reduce post-consumer waste (when people buy more product than they need).
It was 1953 when UGL held its first national sales meeting and introduced the DRYLOK® line, including nine separate products for waterproofing basements, stopping active masonry leaks, and protecting and beautifying interior or exterior masonry walls.
Ok, with the economy being what it is, if you need more space the only place to look is down. Take that dark, damp, and scary basement and turn it into the space you need. Yes, DRYLOK® is a masonry waterproofer, but it also decorates as it waterproofs.
I just wanted to let you know your DRYLOK® paint is an exceptional product. When it rains, I usually get water in my basement from the north wall. I don’t have a sump pump, so I am usually down there with a 10 gallon shop vac to collect all of the water.
The waterproofer was prepared according to the label directions by mixing the equivalent of 2 pints of cold water with 10 pounds of DRYLOK® powder. After mixing until smooth, the equivalent of 2 pints of cold water was added for “normal application” or 1.5 pints for “heavy application”. To distinguish between the two application conditions, a few drops of magenta colorant were added to the mixture.
Ok, we all know it’s hot out there and, in fact, most of the country is seeing record-high temps. What can you do on such hot days? The basement is probably the coolest space in the house this time of year.
With the economy being as tight as it is, if you need more space the only place to look is down. Take that dark, damp, scary basement and turn it into the space you need. Although DRYLOK® is a masonry waterproofer, it also decorates as it waterproofs. DO NOT, whatever you do, put ordinary house paint on those walls. You may not have a water or moisture problem right now, but one may arise in the future.
